The next time you find yourself making a fruit salad, you must try this homemade sangria recipe with some of the leftovers! When I made the Watermelon Fruit Salad Shark, I had 5 tupperware containers full of extra fruit! When I realized I didn’t like any of the veggie pictures I took, (and that I would be a blog short this week) my mind started turning. I called Jennifer who happened to have half a bottle of some homemade peach wine! I immediately thought of the sangria and sent my husband out to get sparkling water and triple sec! Sangria is a fruit based wine punch that originated in Spain. There are several variations of the punch, but this one is amazing!
Homemade Sangria
Homemade Sangria Ingredients
- Leftover fruit from a fruit salad (as much or as little as you want… the more you have, the fruitier it will be!)
- 2 cups of sparkling water
- 3 shots of triple sec
- 1/2 a bottle of a white and fruity wine (you may need more depending on what you buy!)
Homemade Sangria Directions
I carefully moved to each piece of fruit into the bottom of the pitcher. This fruit had been marinating in a simple syrup for two days, so the taste may vary. In a seperate pitcher I mixed 2 cups of sparkling water, 3 shots of triple sec, and half a bottle of a white and fruity wine. Depending on the type of wine you purchase, you may want to use more than half of a bottle. You know how amazing homemade wine made out in the country is
After the liquids were combined, I slowly poured the liquid over the fruit through the spout of the pitcher. I wanted to do this carefully without damaging the fruit! Then, I let the flavors mary in the refrigerator for about an hour.
When we were finally ready to serve, I carefully picked out one piece of each piece of fruit ( red and green grapes, watermelon and cantaloupe balls, strawberries, blueberries, and a kiwi) and placed them in the bottom of the wine glass and poured the sangria right on top. I only had a taste of the sangria, due to health issues I do not drink or in this case eat alcohol soaked fruit. It was amazing, and so refreshing. When my husband and Jennifer ate the fruit, there were no complaints and they said the fruit exploded in your mouth especially the strawberry with all the sparkling water!
For non-drinkers like myself and those of you who may be under age, can remove the wine and add a cherry limeaid instead. You’d be very surprised at how versatile this recipe can be! Go and have some fun in the kitchen and make your own homemade sangria!
